Why we don't believe in Cookie Cutter Massage

Updated: Aug 18

At Myo Precision Therapy, we understand that every person is unique, especially when it comes to pain and discomfort. While many facilities take a one-size-fits-all approach to massage therapy, we focus on personalized treatments to meet the specific needs of each client. Our therapists each have their distinct style and flow, supported by in house specialized training in various European techniques aimed at addressing a wide range of conditions. This allows us to provide relief for problems you might not have thought were treatable with massage therapy.

In this post, we will explore several common conditions that can significantly benefit from our tailored massage techniques. From Tennis Elbow to Shin Splints, we will show you how our specialized approach can help reduce your pain and improve your quality of life.

Understanding the Conditions

Tennis Elbow

Tennis Elbow, medically known as lateral epicondylitis, is an overuse injury that causes pain on the outer part of the elbow. You don't need to play tennis to be affected. In fact, studies show that more than 1% of adults experience this condition at some point. Repetitive arm motions—such as typing or painting—can cause inflammation in the tendons, resulting in significant pain. Our unique massage techniques target this inflammation. For instance, we focus on releasing tension and improving blood flow, which promotes healing in the affected area. Even more unique though, we work directly on the scarring causing micro tearing in the attachments.

Golfers Elbow

Golfers Elbow, or medial epicondylitis, impacts the inner elbow. Like Tennis Elbow, it stems from repetitive motions, leading to pain, weakness, and stiffness. This condition affects around 1 in 10 people engaged in repetitive activities. Our therapists use gentle stretching and targeted massage to ease discomfort. In addition, we target the scar tissue caused from the micro tearing in the attachments. These techniques not only relieve pain but also help restore mobility, enabling individuals to return to their favorite sports and daily activities.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen Shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is characterized by severe stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. As it gradually develops, it can become debilitating. Approximately 5% to 20% of people with Frozen Shoulder report prolonged symptoms lasting over a year. Our skilled team employs massage techniques specifically designed to release tightness and enhance the range of motion in the shoulder, helping clients regain their daily functionality. We use unique methods to help lift the shoulder blade, release the subscapularis, and break down tissues that have hardened from lack of movement.

Osgood Schlatter's Disease

Osgood Schlatter's disease is commonly seen in young athletes during puberty. This condition leads to pain and swelling just below the knee, affecting about 20% of young athletes. It occurs due to muscle and tendon stress on the growth plate in the knee. It isn't just inflammation though. Tight muscles don't just need to be released. The scar tissue they cause at the attachment must be broken down and smoothed. This condition particularly is often dismissed as untreatable. We have helped many people, both youth and adult, with this issue.

Patellar Tendonitis

Patellar Tendonitis, often found in athletes involved in jumping sports, is an overuse injury that causes pain in the knee area. This condition is reported by nearly one-third of athletes in jumping activities. Our targeted massage therapy plays a significant role in reducing stiffness and restoring flexibility, directly impacting athletic performance and recovery times.

Rolled Ankle

A rolled ankle, or ankle sprain, is a common injury that can happen from activities like sports or even stepping awkwardly. Ankle sprains constitute about 25% of all sports injuries. Our treatment not only focuses on pain management but also on rehabilitation. Using specialized massage techniques, we enhance healing and mobility for a faster recovery.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome involves symptoms affecting the hand and wrist, typically stemming from repetitive motions. It impacts up to 5% of the general population. Our trained therapists focus on reducing tension in the forearm and wrist, employing massage techniques that alleviate discomfort and enhance function, making daily tasks less painful, if not fully relieved with a series of sessions.

Migraines and Headaches

The connection between muscle tension and headaches is often overlooked. By targeting tight areas in the neck, shoulders, and upper back, we can significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines and tension headaches. Studies indicate that regular massage therapy can lead to up to a 50% reduction in headache frequency. Our methods specifically target intricate muscles often overlooked due to lack of training that have pain referral patterns into the head. We find that clients with this issue do best when coming every 2 weeks for prevention.

Whiplash

Whiplash is commonly caused by auto accidents or falls and results in neck pain and stiffness. When a sudden occurrence happens, muscle spindles can reset into a defensive position. Our massage therapy specifically targets precise muscles in the neck and upper back to release tension, help strain, and promote a reset in a relaxed position once again. Many of our clients report noticeable relief within a few sessions, regaining their comfort and mobility.

Shin Splints

Many athletes experience shin splints due to repetitive strain on the muscles and tendons around the tibia. This condition can affect up to 15% of runners. Our specialized massage techniques help ease muscle discomfort, improve blood flow, and encourage quicker recovery, ensuring that athletes can return to their training safely and effectively.
